FEEDING DIRECTIONS

PUPPIES

When you first bring your new puppy home, he is under a great deal of stress due to the change in environment. Stress may cause digestive upset. To avoid the further stress of a change in diet, make any change gradually. Add a little of the new diet to the old, and for the next 7-10 days, gradually increase the amount of new diet and decrease the old.

Puppies, like babies, have special nutritional needs during their first year and should have their own special food to meet those needs. Black Gold® Signature Series Ultimate Puppy Food provides concentrated nutrition with all the protein, vitamins and other nutrients an active puppy needs, as well as controlled levels of fat, calories and calcium for his or her developing bones and teeth. The crunchy pieces provide great taste and excellent chewing exercise, and helps clean teeth. Depending on breed, puppies are ready for adult foods at or about 12-18 months. A slow gradual change into the adult food is recommended. Puppies will benefit from a consistent feeding time of day and diet.

A puppy should be fed an amount that will provide steady optimal growth without becoming overweight. The food intake required to maintain steady growth and good body condition will vary depending on age, activity level, environment and other stress factors. Consequently, the food requirement for each puppy will vary, and should be adjusted accordingly. Use the standard chart below as a guide. For best results, keep the puppy on a regular feeding schedule. For example, three small meals a day, or larger meals in the morning and evening. To serve moistened, add one cup of warm water (not hot) to every two cups of food. Stir and serve. Feed only the amount that puppies will eat within 1 hour when served moistened.

ADULT DOGS: Food requirements will vary depending on breed, environment, temperament and stress factors. Show dogs and working dogs may require additional amounts of food depending on their degree of activity or stress. Food intake should be adjusted to maintain optimum body weight.

PREGNANCY AND NURSING: Black Gold® Signature Series Ultimate Puppy Food provides the extra nutrition needed by reproducing females during gestation and lactation. Food consumption may vary during gestation, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female's good body condition. Food intake will increase significantly during lactation to support milk production.

Remember to provide plenty of fresh, clean water in a clean container at all times.
