Subject: Problem with the food
Hello!
We first heard of your dog food on an outdoor radio program here in SLC, Utah about 6 years ago. We adopted a 1 year old white lab who had problems with his weight, skin, and eyes. We tried your food, and couldn't believe the results! We have been a loyal customer of yours ever since. Bodie has always enjoyed your Black Gold 24/12 food, until this last bag. I started feeding him from the new bag and he ate it normally for a week and a half, then suddenly stopped eating it. He would bite into it, and leave some on the porch, with his bowl still full. Almost like it tasted funny or something. I tried adding water thinking maybe he had hurt his teeth somehow, but that didn't work. I mixed in a little of the canned food, and he ate it for about another 4 days, then stopped again. Have there been any recalls, or any problems?
The batch number is : 036A-90428P with an expiration date of Feb 05 2010.
I also noticed when we first started buying the food 6 years ago, it looked dark, like cocoa pebbles, now it's much lighter. Why the change?
Thank you so much for your time, I hope you can help!
Sincerely,
Melanie St.Onge

Sorry for the problem. We have had no other complaints on this batch or any other 24/12 runs. If we would have had an issue with bad feed, we would have had numerous calls and complaints. This feed was made at American Nutrition in Ogden. When fuel was outrageous and ingredient costs high, we moved some production out west to offset the freight. We are no longer having feed made in Ogden because the freight and ingredient costs have come down slightly. We have pulled the production back to the Midwest in early March.
I am curious if the feed was left open so it could have gotten contaminated somehow?? If this is not possible, then all I can think of is that the batch might smell different to the dog for some reason?? Is this dog a picky eater? Tell us where you bought it and we will have them replace it for you at no charge.
Lighter color usually doesn't cause me concern. Ingredients are different color depending on area of the country, time of year, different suppliers, etc. Most companies use barley malt or iron oxide to mask this variation from the consumer but the dog doesn't care about color and it has no bearing on the nutrition. We just let the color be what it is.

Hi John!
I just wanted to let you know, I took Bodie to the vet this morning, and found out he has diabetes.
I just wanted to thank you for your time and let you know that when he gets to feeling better, he will still be on a Black Gold Diet!
I am skeptical about buying any other brand mostly due to the recalls that happened and the lack of nutrition. Do you think we should stick to this other blend for a while? It's only been since May 2 that we changed it. I hate to keep trying different feed, I know it is hard on his system, but I really want him to eat, and eat healthy!
Thank you so much!
Melanie

Thank you so much for your information. Actually, since I have been giving him his shots (Sat) he was off the canned food and back onto the Black Gold by Monday!! I am so happy he is coming back around! So, good news, that's what I will continue to feed him. I am so grateful that your company is around. I checked out the other foods, and what we are getting for the price is unbelievable! Thanks again for your time and trouble, take care!
Sincerely, Melanie St.Onge
PS, I have attached a picture of Bodie, and how happy he is! This picture was taken last night.... He says thank you too!
